Happy Independence Day, but are we really energy independent.

Today, we import 61 percent of our transporation fuel, with 50 percent of that coming from OPEC nations.  The good news is 90 percent of natural gas used for generation and industrial use is produced in America.

Renewables still only account for 6 percent of energy consumed in the United Staes with hydroelectric topping the list.

As we celebrate American independence, I hope we can continue to look to American producers and technology to supply our energy needs.  The independent producers of natural gas and oil produce the majority of natural gas and crudde in America and they reinvest more than they make back into finding more natural gas in America.  We can be more energy independent with clean-burning American natural gas and with American ingenuity, we can develop and use more energy efficient tools in our everyday lives.  Today, America can become the leader in clean energy technology, creating a "watt-com" revolution that can make the world a better place for our children.
