Denise A. Bode is a nationally recognized energy policy expert. As one of Oklahoma's three 3 statewide elected Corporation Commissioners, she had oversight over 70% of the state's economy, including oil and gas exploration and production, utilities, transportation, above and below ground storage tanks, and environmental matters. She served for 10 years. Today, Denise Bode is the CEO of the American Clean Skies Foundation, a national organization committed to educating the public on the necessity of clean burning natural gas.
Before joining the commission, Mrs. Bode served for seven years as president of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Bode preceded her service at IPAA as a founding partner of a Washington D.C. firm.. Ms. Bode also worked for nine years on the staff of Governor then–U.S. Senator David Boren as his legal counsel, focusing on energy and taxation.
She was appointed to President George W. Bush’s Energy Transition Advisory Team and has testified before Congress on numerous occasions, as well as lectured at the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society.. She served as the first President of the Southwest Power Pool’s Regional State Committee. The committee is charged with directing electric transmission expansion in Oklahoma and the other states in the SPP region.
Bode was born in Tulsa and raised in Bartlesville. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oklahoma , her Juris Doctor from George Mason University and a Master’s of Law in Taxation from Georgetown University.
She has been married 30 years to her husband John W. Bode, and they have a son Sean who is 24.
